Update

So it has been a long time since I blogged but that was because there was nothing to say. Now, however, there have been a few developments. Kathryn, Edward's mum, has started working on our wedding invitations and we have quite a few made up already.

I have also decided on my bridesmaids dresses but you won't be seeing them until the wedding. They're by a designer called Alfred Angelo so I'm quite excited about getting them ordered and sorted out.

I'm also in contact with a costume designer at the Edinburgh College of Art about getting a dress designed and made for me. I've sent her a few pictures showing her what I like and now I'm just waiting for her to draw some sketches and go from there.

And finally, we've had a bit of a change of heart about our wedding favours. I really like the idea of seed packets for the ladies and aftershave samples for the guys. I feel these suit Edward and I better than our previous idea. So we shall see what we eventually choose.

Edward has also chosen Terry as his Best Man which is very exciting. We are finally getting into the swing of things and it's less than 11 months til the wedding.

That is all there actually is for the moment. Hopefully I will have some updates soon about dresses etc.

Day is booked

So our day is officially booked. We finally forked out the £250 for the registrar. So we are getting married on July 3rd 2010 at 4.30pm. So exciting.

I have now started looking at dresses and I may have possibly found the 2 dresses for my bridesmaids which is very exciting. I did try on wedding dresses but there was only one that I really liked which is a shame. I wish littlewoods had a store cause there was an absolutely gorgeous dress in their catologue.

Edward has now also decided that he wants a proper wedding cake so we're looking to get our cake from www.toogoodtoeat.co.uk. He is looking into getting a topsy turvy cake. This is something I'm leaving totally up to him and his mum. They're both very excited about it.

I'm also on the look out for fake white orchids so if you see any just let me know as they are like impossible to find.

The Engagement Party

So we had our engagement party last week and it was a success! Things didn't go totally to plan. So thank you to everyone who came and espacially to Lorna for sorting everything out!

So there's not much wedding news! We're still waiting on some forms to finish off booking the day!

Will try to update you guys as soon as there is anything new

We are booked!

So on Wednesday this week Lorna and I finally booked the wedding venue.  The date is: 3rd July 2010.  At the moment we are waiting for forms so we can book our registrar and then that will be our wedding day completely booked.

Edward mum's is making our invitations and she just bought the stuff to get that ready which is exciting.  I can't wait to see what she comes up with.

The engagement party is almost upon us too.  I'm very excited about that.  We've got about 20 confirmed guests now so hopefully we'll get a bit more and it'll be a great night.  I also bought my dress for the night.  I've got to go out and buy the shoes sometime this week which is always very exciting or me.

I don't really think there is much else to say except make sure you RSVP to the party.  We've got some bouncers and I wouldn't like to be on the wrong side of them lol

My First Post

So now that I'm finally engaged I've decided I should write a blog about what I'm doing and hopefully if I can keep costs down I can give people some tips.

So Edward and I have been together over four years and we're hoping to get married next July.  We want to keep the costs as minimal as possible so that we don't have to borrow a lot of money and so we can also pay for the honeymoon.  We've budgeted for around £3000. I've enlisted the help of my friend Lorna to help plan all this as she's quite the party planner.

So to the good stuff.  So far we have booked the venue for the engagement party and it is in 4 weeks.  I'm really looking forward to it.  And if all goes well it could be a sign of the good things to come.  We decided to have it at the Newsroom, Edinburgh as they have a free function room if your guests reach a minimum spend.  We've invited over 60 people but I already know a few who won't be able to make it.  So I'm not too worried about not reaching the minimum spend.

I also tried on my first wedding dress today.  It wasn't anything too serious, just to see how they fit and how much weight I have to lose.  I'm hoping to have lost over 3 stone which in a year and 4 months shouldn't be hard.  So the dress was gorgeous except for some gold beading.  I want as simple and as elegant a dress as possible.  So it was good to see that what I'm looking for is out there.  And I love playing dress up so it was fun.

Anyhow tomorrow we are going to look at our first wedding venue.  I'm really excited about this as this venue is the one I really want and I'm hoping Edward will love it as much as I do and we can set an official date.

That is all for now!  I will keep you posted.
